Makati urged to sharpen edge in BPO sector |

MANILA, Philippines--The business process outsourcing sector may continue to rake in millions of dollars and generate thousands of jobs for the country, but traditional premier BPO locations may lose out on the boom if appropriate measures to attract investors are not put in place.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Makati City Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado himself admitted that Makati was already lagging behind in the BPO race, particularly to more aggressive Metro Manila cities such as Quezon City, Pasig and Mandaluyong. |

RP eyes piece of billion-dollar game development industry |

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines is looking at getting a piece of the billion dollar game development industry as it participates for the first time at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said.
According to the DTI, the country’s share in the global game market is projected to reach more than $7 million by the end of 2010. This signifies a 30-percent growth from 2009. |

PhilWeb income soars 89% to P818 million |

Listed online technology firm PhilWeb Corporation reported an 89 percent jump in its audited net income for 2009 to P551 million as revenues rose 82 percent to P818 million.
“We are committed to deliver an equally dramatic result in 2010 of over a billion pesos in net income,” said Philweb president Dennis O. Valdes in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange yesterday.
Valdez said the firm expects to maintain the growth trajectory of its existing core businesses and has launched several new businesses, such as Pagcor's HomePlay, that promise to deliver entirely new revenue streams.

Global banking and payments tech provider opens Manila service center |

Abadilla The Manila Bulletin February 16, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 In a bid to reinforce its leadership in Asia, FIS, one of the world’s largest providers of banking and payments technology, launched a new service center in Manila Tuesday and plans to increase its Filipino workers from 150 to 1,000 in the next 18 months.
FIS new facility will furnish call center, back office processing and data center services for both local and international clients.
